Ⅶ 次の英文を読み,あとの問いに答えよ。

Even just 10 years ago, one could sit in a university cafeteria in Japan and overhear students talking enthusiastically about their plans to travel overseas. In those days, many students saw their time at university as a chance to broaden their horizons outside Japan.
These days it seems that those lively conversations are becoming rarer and rarer. It is said that the number of students going overseas has dropped, and even the number of students expressing a desire to travel abroad has fallen.
A Japanese professor at a university in Tokyo blames mobile phones. She says, “These terrible devices have narrowed the vision of young people. When I was a student, we talked more, we went places our desire was to explore things and have new experiences. Recently, the lives of too many students are centered around their mobile phone, sending messages or playing around with apps.* They seem trapped in their own little digital world.”
Financial reasons must also play a part. Simply put, the modern student lifestyle costs a lot of money. Besides the monthly cell phone bill, students must find money for frequent drinking parties, new gadgets, clothes, trips to theme parks, club activities all of these expenses can eat away at a student’s budget until there is nothing left for traveling.
One male student at a university in Yokohama explained his way of thinking: “If I have to choose between a trip abroad and buying an iPad, I will buy the iPad. The trip will be over in a few days but the iPad will give me pleasure for two or three years. And besides, if I want to find out about things overseas, I can use the iPad to access Wikipedia.”
That may seem logical, but will the little touchscreen help him to develop as a person? Many people say that traveling has changed them for the better. Backpacking abroad can teach young people a lot of useful skills for the real world things like resourcefulness, self-reliance, how to make friends and how to motivate yourself.
Why not try it for yourself? With cheap LCC** tickets available, amazing adventures such as backpacking around Thailand, trekking in Nepal or exploring the ruins at Angkor Wat are just a short flight away.
*app=application 「アプリ(アプリケーションソフト)」
**LCC=Low Cost Carrier 「運賃の安い航空会社」
